Let’s get
prepared af
Firstly, thank you so much for trusting me with your tattoo, whether it’s your first or 50th!
I’m excited to work with you on your upcoming project. This is a compilation of what you can expect from me as your artist, and what I expect from you as a client.
What to expect:
-
Once you have paid your deposit and your appointment has been confirmed, you will get a series of emails updating you on details of your appointment.
You will receive a confirmation 72 hours prior to your chosen date and time. If, for any reason, you cannot make your scheduled appointment please reach out to me to let me know.
-
The timeline in which I draw your design is dependent on which day of the week your appointment is scheduled. I typically draw for my appointments 24-48 hours before they take place.
-
-For larger projects my timeline varies depending on how much time I think I’ll need to properly design your project. If you would like to make any minor changes to your artwork, you are more than welcome to do so on the day of your appointment. There is no limit on how many changes you may request, and I’ll do my best to make sure you end up with something you love.
-Please do not hesitate to ask for changes, this is a very permanent decision. I understand the desire to not seem ‘difficult’ by requesting design changes, but this is on you forever! If for some reason you come in and do not like anything about your design, we may need to reschedule your appointment to accommodate the changes that need to be made.
-
On the day of your appointment we will determine the final size and placement of your tattoo. As with design changes, please do not hesitate to ask to move the stencil if you do not like the placement. I typically place stencils in the way that I feel will best suit your body and the location you’ve chosen. However, it is YOUR body. There is no ‘wrong’ way to have your tattoo placed on you if you have a set idea in mind. I am always happy to give my professional opinion, but I’m not the one who has to wear it forever!
-
The best way to prepare for your appointment starts the night before. Some things that will REALLY help your experience -
A good night’s sleep
Being hydrated (Water is always best!)
Eating a good meal within the last 2 hours prior to your appointment time
Wearing comfy clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty
Bringing any additional things you may need (tattoo go bag ideas below)
Have your valid photo ID ready
Let me know in advance of any allergies/sensitivities
You may not present a birth certificate, expired ID, etc as a valid form of ID.
-
Most sessions are at least a few hours. That may seem doable, but 3 hours is a LONG time to be uncomfortable. Here’s some items I love to keep with me when getting tattooed, hopefully it’ll help you pack your own tattoo go bag!

A long, flowy skirt
Shorts
Baggy sweat pants
(I also have disposable underwear on hand, do not hesitate to ask if you’d like a pair!)

There’s a lot of good options for pain and sensation management during tattooing.
Mental relief options:
Bringing an activity to focus on will do WONDERS for both pain and overstimulation during the process
Stress balls (specifically the ones with water beads like this one) are incredibly helpful for painful spots and soothing anxiety.
Bringing enough comfort items. Whether that’s a stuffed animal, blanket, jacket, emotional support water bottle, whatever you need. There’s no judgment here.
Physical Relief Options:
Numbing as we go: the oinment I use during tattooing contains the highest amount of acceptable lidocaine (numbing) that can be safely applied to the skin. It will help quite a bit during the process, unless you are non-reactive to lidocaine products.
Pre-numbing: Pre-numbing is not my favorite option, but it is an option. I only have one topical numbing cream brand that I love and trust, which can be found here. I prefer to numb as we go to prolong the duration of time that the lidocaine will work for you. However, that’s not always an option if you suffer with severe sensory processing symptoms. Pre-numbing may be the best option for you if your body is unable to process sudden sensory changes. If you choose to pre numb, please give me a heads up and tell me what brand of numbing you’ve chosen. ALWAYS patch test your numbing creams, and buy directly from the manufacturer, not third party sellers.

If you should need a break, please ask! There is no limit to breaks. If you’re feeling unwell, or need anything from me at all during the process, let me know. If you begin to feel light headed, faint, dizzy, etc let me know right away. The longer you wait, the harder it will be for me to treat your condition. Alerting me to any signs of illness helps me as your artist. Waiting until you are so sick that it’s obvious means we’re both about to have a very bad time. I’d rather we didn’t. Let me help you as soon as you feel the first signs of discomfort.
It is YOUR responsibility to advocate for yourself during your appointments. If you want a design changed, a stencil moved, a bathroom break, etc please ask! You are not bothering me, you are not difficult, you are not hard to work with. You are a human being and getting tattooed can be very uncomfortable sometimes. As a heavily tattooed individual, I understand everything you’re experiencing and am more than happy to alleviate any additional discomfort you may be feeling. No need to be sorry, no need to limit your needs to avoid ‘inconveniencing’ me, none of that silliness. Tell me what you need and what I can do for you, and I will happily do whatever I can to accommodate you and your comfort. This is your experience, let’s make it awesome.

I will thoroughly explain aftercare instructions after your tattoo is finished. I will go over the supplies you need and the process of caring for your new tattoo.
I will also provide you a sheet of paper (or a digital copy if you prefer) that explains aftercare and recommended products. I will either wrap your tattoo with Saran Wrap or saniderm.
I will do my best to counsel you on which wrap I believe will be best suited for your lifestyle whilst healing your tattoo. If you’d like to be prepared for aftercare, the main products I recommend are Aquaphor, liquid Dial Gold soap, and unscented Nivea brand lotion.
